Architecture and vision
New building shapes emerge in the horizon when you arrive with the Metro train from Copenhagen Centre, seeming to be almost transparent and to invite you in. The first you notice when entering is how the interacting ellipsoid shapes gives a spatial experience not seen anywhere else and the unobstructed views of the surrounding area, not to mention multiple roof terraces in direct contact with the building.
About
This proposal came in 2nd in an invited competition for extending the Ferring Building in Ørestaden, Denmark. The project takes starting point in ellipsoid shapes interacting with each other throughout the building, creating vibrant and open plans, which can be utilized in different ways. The ground floor holds entrance and reception for all stories, plus a selection of retail shops and cafes. The upper floors are offices, most of them with extensive outdoor areas.
Materials
Most of the facade is glazed with a vertical framing clearly showing the building structure. The ellipsoid shapes sits on a rectangular base with internal supporting concrete columns and glazed facade with sparsely placed pieces of concrete walls.
